The future of many youth were improved due to their learning how to work in a group (band), dedication to practicing an instrument (hard work has rewards), and building self-esteem (devoted mentor or instructor). There were definite improvements in graduation rates, higher education achievements, and life-long living skills learned through interaction of like-minded teachers and students working for a common goal of achieving music individually and together as a group. Studies have also shown benefits for people of all ages with disabilities like stroke and other head injuries, Autism, Down's syndrome and other developmental disabilities. Even dementia in the elderly shows a marked improvement through music therapy.
